FTTH Fiber Broadband Troubleshooting Guide for Home Users
I. Check Indicator Lights: Locate Faults in 30 Seconds (Best for Beginners)
Off: Check the power adapter, cable, and power outlet; try a different socket.
Solid on: Power supply is normal.
Red (solid or flashing): Fiber signal abnormality.
Unplug and reinsert the fiber connector gently, clean the port; if the red light remains, contact your ISP for line troubleshooting.
Off: Check Ethernet cable connection, damage, or try another LAN port/cable.
Flashing: Data is transmitting normally-no action needed.
II. Step-by-Step Troubleshooting for Common Issues
Fault 1: All devices offline, no internet access
Check indicators: If LOS/Optical is red, reinsert the fiber connector.
Proper restart: Unplug both ONT and router, wait at least 30 seconds. Turn on the ONT first (wait ~2 minutes for lights to stabilize), then the router.
If still offline: Connect a computer directly to the ONT via Ethernet.
Works: Problem is with the router.
Doesn't work: Contact ISP to check for unpaid bills or line maintenance.
Fault 2: PPPoE dial-up failed (bridge mode)
Confirm router WAN is set to PPPoE dial-up, with correct broadband username and password (case-sensitive, no extra spaces).
Restart ONT and router, then retry dial-up.
If still failing:
Dial up manually from a computer connected directly to ONT.
Failed: Contact ISP to unbind account or reset password.
Successful: Reconfigure router dial-up settings.
Fault 3: Extremely slow speed (far below subscribed plan)
Test speed with a computer directly connected to ONT. If slow, check optical power (normal range: -10 ~ -28 dBm); contact ISP if abnormal.
Ensure ONT LAN port is gigabit (GE/1000M) and cable is Cat5e or above (Cat6 recommended for 300M+ broadband).
Switch to bridge mode if using router mode; disable ONT's built-in Wi‑Fi to reduce interference and free up bandwidth.
Fault 4: Frequent reboots & overheating
Place ONT in an open, ventilated area away from heat sources to prevent overheating.
Use the original, matched power adapter to avoid unstable power supply.
If reboots continue: Contact ISP to replace the ONT (likely hardware failure).
III. Beginner Mistakes to Avoid
Do NOT press the Reset button casually: It erases all configurations and requires ISP re-registration.
Do NOT force-plug fiber connectors: Handle gently; clean ports with a clean tissue only.
Do NOT modify advanced settings: Optical power, firmware, protocols, etc., should only be adjusted by ISP technicians.
IV. Summary
Check indicator lights first.
Perform a proper restart.
Verify connections and settings.
